About Thomas Nixon

Tom Nixon was born and raised in southwest Houston, graduating from Westbury High School in 1991. Before graduating from high school, he joined the Texas Army National Guard, achieving airborne status at Fort Benning, Georgia. He then attained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, majoring in finance from the University of Houston.

While Mr. Nixon completed his commitment with the Army, he was recruited and hired by the Houston Police Department where he continued to serve his community for ten (10) years with distinction, having received numerous commendations and multiple lifesaving awards where he came to aid of a choking victim and placing his welfare in jeopardy during Tropical Storm Allison. That night, Mr. Nixon with Sgt. Cullen Bean, and Officers Michael Lumpkin, William Sumner, Matthew May, Luis Hernandez waded into White Oak Bayou in an effort to save the lives of three men. Unfortunately, one of the men, Chad Garren, 21, panicked and drowned approximately 12 feet in front of the officers.

After Tropical Storm Allison, Tom attended South Texas College of Law and graduated in 2004 and was licensed to practice law in the State of Texas. . He was licensed as an attorney in the State of Texas in May of 2005. Tom practices in the areas of property law, family law and personal injury.

In 2006, Mr. Nixon would stand-up once again and fight for the safety of his community when he arrived at the scene of an head-on accident resulting from an hour-long high-speed police chase where the fleeing criminal caused a head on collision with a family of three. Having believed the inadequate policies of the Houston Police Department required immediate review, he made statements to the media to that effect and would later be terminated from the Houston Police Department for speaking out in support of the public’s safety. After his departure from the Houston Police Department, Mr. Nixon starting practicing as an attorney on a full-time basis.

At that time, he was a practicing attorney and police officer for H.P.D. After leaving H.P.D., Tom began work as a full-time lawyer. Mr. Nixon’s experience, education and training as both an attorney and police officer inspired him to run, albeit unsuccessful, for political office as a member of the Houston City Counsel.

Mr. Nixon is a member of and has been admitted to practice law in Texas by the State Bar of Texas. He is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
